40th Anniversary Trip

Greetings to one and all,
Terry and I talked many months ago about celebrating our 40th anniversary. We decided to take a vacation (big surprise), since our "boys" would probably not be coming home to help us celebrate. I had never been to Niagara Falls (T. had visited when he was either 7 or 10) and, the North Shore of Lake Superior is one of our favorite places -- so we combined the two.

Our friends, Jon and Lynette, were actually traveling in the East Coast states, so decided to "hook up" with us. They met us in Toronto, on Sat., July 19th. (Fact -- Toronto is the 5th largest city in North America). We stayed there three nights, took a city/harbor tour one day, and then took a day/evening tour to Niagara Falls. It was so awesome. If you go, be sure to go to the Canadian side, as it is a much better view. We rode the "Maid of the Mist'' close to the Falls and got all wet. Walked under the falls in some caves and could feel and see the tremendous force of all the water. Had a buffet dinner overlooking the falls at a Sheraton.

Took two days driving across Canada from Toronto, to Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, and then down to Lutsen, Minnesota. We followed the northern and western sides of Lake Superior. Here's the fact for the day. Lake Superior has enough water to cover all of North America, Central America, and South America with a foot of water.

We hiked the Temperance River, visited Gooseberry Falls, ate at the "Blue Fin" restaurant (I had waitressed in a restaurant on this site 42 years ago), took a ski lift ride up to Moose Mtn., and fed the sea gulls -- it doesn't take much to entertain us.

On Friday, we drove from Lutsen, MN, to Greene to stay with Jo & Eldie. Of course, we had to golf there. Then on to Williamsburg for the Shaull family reunion. Home on Sunday night.

Monday night, Grandma Darlene took us and Dan and Carin out to eat at a very nice restaurant here in S.C.--so we are celebrating pretty well. Thursday and Friday, Terry and I are going to Nebraska City, NE, to golf at Arbor Hills. The funeral home and Dan & Carin gave us a gift certificate last Christmas.

Then Sat. - Thurs., Dan and Carin are going to San Francisco for a Funeral Director's meeting. So Terry and I get to have quality time with Henry and Cora. I'm concerned that I might actually have to cook food for the kids -- popcorn probably won't be acceptable.

Anyway, just wanted to bring you up-to-date on the Smiths. Summer is going too quickly -- probably because we are running around all the time--but we enjoy it.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Privacy Settings

Hello everyone!

My mom has mentioned to me that there have been a few concerns about what we write here and other people reading it. There is a privacy setting i can use so that only certain people are allowed to read this blog; however i wanted to run it by everyone first before implementing them.

About the only feasible way to make this blog private is to allow only the authors access to view it. That means that as of right now, only the 7 people who have been able to log into blogger and post here would be allowed to read this. The people who have not yet signed up (Sheila, Ranae, etc.) would not have access until they signed up. In order to sign up, however, they would have to be invited by me.

For now i am leaving this open, until i hear from you that you definitely want to make it private, or until i hear from those of you not signed up and you want to get signed up.

Let me know what you all think by either posting a comment (click on 'Comment' below), or emailing me. Thanks!

Hawaii

So for those of you who don't know, i recently spent a week in Hawaii for a friend's wedding. It was a great time, and a great wedding. Below i've taken some pictures from the week and created a video out of it. Just push play, and there is some music for those of you with speakers... Enjoy!

One More Answer

Your titles can be the same as Labels, or you can make your labels more descriptive. For example, you could title a post 'Summer 2008', describe everything you did this summer, then use labels such as Rapid City, Toronto (When are you leaving again?), etc.

Also, i would like you to use your name as a Label, but i can always add that later. And while i do have lots of power, i'm just touching things up, such as spelling and grammar. I don't delete anything anyone writes. Better?=)

Ok, mother, pay attention=). The title is the part just above this text in maroon that in this case says 'Answer'. When you go to write something, it is a small box that sits above where you type the majority of your text with the word "Title:" next to the box. Complicating huh?

The body is what i am writing now, and is comprised of the majority of your text. When you go to write something, it is the big box.

Labels appear at the end of the end of the text next to the word "Labels:". You should use things you talk about in the post as the label. For example, your post about the Anniversary Celebration in Rapid City is now labeled "Reutter Golden Wedding Anniversary 2008" (I changed that). I also use whoever wrote each entry as a label as any easy way to find what each person writes. If you look to the write under the column "What We Have Written", you will see each person's name listed. If you click on a name, it will bring up every post written by that person. For the people not yet on the blog, it will bring up the Round Robin Letter from that person that Chris typed in.

Any more questions?

Summer in Greene

Hi to all. I just read A. Sue's note about our vacation. It was really a fun time, good to finally see the state of SD--never went beyond Okoboji when the girls were growing up! We had a great time, thanks to a lot of work and worry from A. Jan!
Just an update from Greene. We have had quite a summer already. Parkersburg was hit with an E5 tornado Memorial Day weekend--7 deaths and destroyed about 1/3 of the town. I had many patients and coworkers who lived there. Spent 2 1/2 days volunteering on the phone lines at the Court House. Then 2 weeks later, Greene was flooded (the worst in history)--many homes destroyed, all the buildings in downtown (old buildings) had basements full of water, etc. At present, we are without a post office for the forseable future, the Medical Clinic has relocated to Rockford, the Community Center is possible unfixable so Meals on Wheels and many community groups are using our church's Fellowship Hall, the Greene Recorder (our weekly paper) is set up at the church also. We had close friends stay with us for nearly a week because their apartment was destroyed--Aaron (90) had not climbed a flight of steps for a couple years, but we got him upstairs to their bedroom each night without incident!! They will now be moving to assisted living in Charles City--a necessary move for them, but upsetting at their age.
Eldie has his first interview and tests for a clinical study of recurring kidney cancer next week--think it might get quite involved, but we are trying to be non-judgemental. Monthly trips to Iowa City mid-week may get old. Time will tell. We are thankful that he feels so good--and golf is again on his agenda. Now, if the course would get dried out, so we could play all 9 holes, it would be great--has been closed since flooding on June 6--doesn't help with the precarious financial status!!
All is good here. Love to all of you. Aunt Jo

Answer

Yes mother, entries can be erased from here. Each person has the ability to delete anything they themselves have written, and I have the ability to erase any entry. The question is why would you want to erase them? Is there a reason?

Also, I am glad you have learned to 'label' your posts, that is nice. Now it would be nice if you could put a title on each entry as well. It makes it a bit easier to find each entry on the page.

I will send out the invites again to the people who have not signed up, but they are only good for a certain amount of time, and i know that time is not 6 weeks. So i will wait a few weeks before sending them out. Please have anyone who is having difficulty call me. Thanks!!
